The Oakland International Airport is the 2nd largest airport in the Bay Area and closest in location to the region’s top tourist and entertainment destinations. Each year more than 11 million passengers travel to and from OAK.
The airport has service primarily to domestic & Mexico destinations, along with a few European routes on some of the newer Transatlantic low-cost airlines
Oakland International Airport is conveniently located near Oakland, San Francisco, and Berkley, California. There are shuttles, taxis, and limo services that will take you to and from the airport. The BART train travels between Oakland Airport to convenient stations including downtown San Francisco. You can catch the BART from Terminal 1 near the baggage claim. The airport has two terminals which are only a short walk apart. Southwest Airlines operates from Terminal 2 and all other airline operate from Terminal 1.
Recently, the Escape Lounge at Oak opened. It is a comfortable lounge open to all travelers from all airlines for a fee. You can find the Escape Lounge in Terminal 1, across from gate 9. If you would like to use the lounge you can reserve a spot online or visit the lounge once you have checked in to your flight. Once you are in the lounge, you will have access to complimentary food and drink.
Retail & Dining
The dining options in Terminal 1 are limited, although the food in the Escape Lounge is quite good. The best option outside the lounge is Silver Dragon (near gate 9) which offers a variety of Asian dishes. In Terminal 2, we were pleased to see Andale (near gate 28), our favorite airport Mexican restaurant which we frequent at SFO. Afterwards, treat yourself to an ice cream at Fenton’s (near gate 25) which has been in the dairy business in the east Bay Area for over 100 years, and serves quality locally made ice cream since 1922.
The airport is equipped with WIFI through Boingo. You can choose 45 minutes of complimentary, sponsored WIFI. For a nominal fee you can access premium, ad-free WIFI.
